Weapons Platoon, Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division - 13 December 1960, Camp Pendleton

Marines were equiped with M-1 Garand Rifle, Platoon Seargeant 45-Caliber Pistol. Charlie 1/5 was a transplacement Battalion for Stormys BLT 3/3. The 3.5 Rocket Launcher could disable a tank 800 yards in the hands of experienced gunner.  The 30-Cal machingun earned its battle scars in several wars.  All-Hands carried the M-1 Rifle providing extra fire power.  The M-1 was an excellent weapon that had tremendous firing characteristics, it was very hard to have the weapon jam unlike its predecessor.  "The M1 replaced the bolt action M1903 Springfield as the standard U.S. service rifle in the mid 1930s, and was itself replaced by the selective fire M14 rifle in the early 1960s. Photo was taken at Camp Margarita, Camp Pendleton, California.
